Tech Projects

The Otter Creek Technology Department strives to familiarize students with a wide variety of basic skills needed in various technological fields. Sixth grade technology students design a water/air propelled rocket made from (2) two-liter bottles. Following their completion, the rockets are launched as a culminating activity to determine their length of flight. In addition, grade six students design a one-story house using Envisioneer software. Using cardboard, students build a mock-up of their house design which is later displayed at the Terre Haute Home Show in mid-March. In seventh grade a manufacturing unit is presented to students. They collaborate and are carefully trained to use a variety of tools and machines to manufacture a wooden clock. Eighth grade students are introduced to robotics. Students build robots to perform competitive tasks such as pushing a billiard ball. They also build a prototype style robot that places a racquetball on a multi-height vertical tube apparatus.
