ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE PROCEDURES- Student Day- 8:15 a.m.-2:40 p.m. (Tardy Bell rings at 8:15 a.m.)

The safety and security of our students are of utmost importance.  A team effort to take every precaution possible will guarantee the students at Terre Town Elementary School will be kept from harm.

§  Arrival-

1.       Walkers- All walkers will enter through the doors on the north side of the building.  (Boston Avenue)  A teacher will greet the walkers.

2.       Bus Riders- The bus riders will be greeted by teachers and directed to their classrooms or to the cafeteria to pick up breakfast.

3.       Car Riders- Students being dropped off by parents should enter the doors on the south side of the building through the gym entrance.  Teachers will greet the students and direct them to their classrooms or the cafeteria to pick up breakfast.

If you need to leave special instructions with the secretary or health assistant, please feel free to enter through the east doors.  The east doors are to be used for emergencies only.  We should have no cars dropping students off at the east doors and parents should not park their cars along the curb by the east doors.  The parent should park and then come in to the office through the east doors in the event of an emergency.

§  Departure-

1.       Bus Riders- Students will be escorted to their bus by a classroom teacher.  The teacher will dismiss buses and remain until all buses have departed.

2.       Car Riders- Students will be taken to the gym and grouped by grade level.  The cars will be provided with a visor card to write their last name in big letters. (Please use the card provided last year if you still have it.) The visor of the car will be flipped down so the name will show.  The teacher will be able to get the child ready for pick-up.

3.       Walkers -  All walkers will exit through the Boston Ave. doors.  These students will be taken across the street by a teacher or an assistant.

If you need to pick up your child due to an emergency, please park in the available parking spots (not along the curb) and come to the main office through the east doors.

*Please note: If your child has a change in departure plans, please notify the office no later than 2:00 p.m.  This will insure the student and classroom teacher are notified and adjustments in departure plans are recorded.  Remember, we are doing this for the safety of all children.  We will not be able to hold buses due to late notice of change in departure plans.  The buses are on schedules and must be ready to leave Terre Town no later than 2:45 p.m. to meet students in a timely manner at Otter Creek Middle School and North Vigo High School.

Thank you, in advance, for helping the staff at Terre Town Elementary School in providing the very best educational experience for your children.

Sincerely,

Cinda Taylor
